Upon activation before departure, SafeTripNJ provides automatic, hands-free traffic advisories for all major highways, bridges, and tunnels within New Jersey. When approaching an incident or disruption, the app issues audio alerts that require no manual interaction—users need only leave their phone in the vehicle and maintain attention on the road.

The default broadcast radius covers a 10-mile area, with configurable options allowing users to extend or reduce this range. Advisories are automatically repeated at 30-minute intervals while within the specified distance, and settings can be adjusted to filter alerts from specific roadway types or directions. For example, users can opt to receive advisories solely related to toll roads when driving on the Garden State Parkway or focus on highway alerts while on I-78.

SafeTripNJ offers basic audio controls—including Play, Pause, Stop, Skip, and Replay—though these should not be used while driving. The system handles incoming or outgoing calls gracefully; unless configured otherwise in settings, advisories will pause during calls and resume afterward. Users can enable continuous playback during calls if desired.

The app requires no registration and maintains user anonymity. It collects minimal data—primarily speed and location—to improve real-time traffic reporting. Users can choose to opt out of data sharing through simple settings adjustments.

Built on Information Logistics’ patent-pending "Open Microphone Platform," the application leverages queue-driven streaming technology combined with GPS data to deliver relevant traffic alerts efficiently.

It is important to emphasize that SafeTripNJ is intended for use when stationary—users should not operate their devices while driving. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority disclaims responsibility for any consequences arising from misuse or distracted use of the app or mobile device.

Prolonged background GPS use can significantly impact battery life, and standard data charges may apply based on the user’s mobile plan.

Functionality may be limited on non-GPS-enabled devices. SafeTripNJ provides comprehensive information across all major New Jersey roadways—toll and non-toll—that is intended solely for safe use during travel. It was developed by Information Logistics Inc. under a contract with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. Users should be aware that other applications utilizing Turnpike or Garden State Parkway trademarks or images may not be officially affiliated or authorized by the Authority.
